PBR Challenge
New year comes with a new challenge - and it's a big one.
PBR keeps on getting bigger and setting trends in 3D world. If you still haven't caught up with Physically Based Rendering, 2017 is a very good time to do just that - and this competition should give a little nudge to start creating content that is fast-becoming a real standard in the gaming industry.
In case you're interested in trying out PBR, getting better with it, or just have a competitive mindset, the challenge will be suitable for you. The PBR challenge is a competition for game-ready models, but there is no category restriction - if the model is below 50 000 polygons and is PBR textured - you're in!
Our friends at Allegorithmic, 3D-Coat and Marmoset are joining in this competition, providing some great prizes for PBR rendering - and CGTrader is throwing in a $1000 in cash for the winners.
Now, get the new-year hangover off your head, get back to modeling, and make something memorable to come out on top in this competition!
In case you need an explanation on PBR, take a look at the comprehensive PBR Guide by Allegorithmic, great tutorial on PBR theory, posted by Marmoset's founder Jeff Rusell - and the basics on PBR standards by Joe Wilson.

Frequently Asked Questions
Please go through these questions before contacting us
Do I need to upload files or only images of my 3D design?
You need to upload files and images of your 3D design in order to participate in the challenge.
How do I know my model is eligible for the PBR Challenge?
While uploading your 3D Design, click on the PBR Challenge checkbox to mark your model as an entry. Provide the PBR texture details in the model description for it to be eligible entry - and don't overstep the polygon count of 50 000 polygons.
I don't want to put my entry model for sale. Do you have any suggestions?
Does earning money from your digital files sounds like a bad idea? Just try to put higher price on it, let's say 300 USD.
I don't want to lose copyrights on my model after it is sold.
There are General, Editorial and Custom licenses for you to choose under which you want to operate. Individuals or companies that bought your model can't use it for commercial purposes if it hasn't been changed. So no worries - you won't lose the copyright.
How can I participate in the challenge?
Design a great looking 3D model for the challenge and upload it to CGTrader.
What if I put the required tag on my already published 3D model on CGTrader - do you treat it as a valid entry?
No. Only 3D models uploaded in the period from the 2nd of January, 2017 to the 27th of February, 2017 will be treated as valid entries.
Do free 3D models participate in the challenge?
Yes, absolutely. Sharing artwork is always appreciated in the community.
Can I enter with 3D models which participated in other challenges elsewhere?
Yes. There are no restrictions on publishing and selling your models elsewhere.
Do price tags play any importance when entries are being judged?
No. But do not forget that the prices are always judged by the customers.
I want to participate in the challenge so I am going to delete my already uploaded models and upload them again to meet the "publishing period" requirement. Can I do that?
No. We are tracking every deleted and uploaded model, so it is useless to drive-through our requirements of the challenge.
