I am moving away from CGTrader!

Discussion started by corporate-hexolin

Hello, it has been a stellar month for my 3D prints on CGTrader and I will be moving away from CG Trader to a new service to sell my 3D prints since they have better commission rates and free promotional advertisement tools. Thank you guys for the support!

I think you must to thinking before write a post and spam cgt competitor...
you said that your "new service" have better commision rates but they want a fixed fee per month... so what is the advantage? ...that if you do not sell products you must to pay !!!???

sorry but as my advice your alternative to cgt doesn't look professional at all ... and also the site is too slow ... I bet that can't support huge amount of network traffic ...

I am aware I must pay. You say the alternative doesn't look professional, it does look more professional than this website and the community are much friendlier than this site and by the way the site can handle huge amount of traffic, if could not - I would not be suggesting it as an alternative to CGTrader. Thanks!

Sorry but as a 3d Artist I saw hundreds of site that sell 3dmodels and I don't think at all that could be a serious alternative..
If you think it is just leave cgt ...

There is hundreds of better alternatives out there. CGTrader is crap, end of story. It's not designed for serious creators, its like a second rate version of Envato.

Posts like this arent necessary, especially when you post the next thread asking people to check out your new products on this new website. The forum post has since been deleted. The fact that the website your "new products" linked to is registered under the same email address as your username is a bit suspicious too.

If you dont want to post and share on cg trader then fair, best of luck to you. But this is slimey af.

Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn. You did not read my post, I specifically said what do you think about this 3D printed model, not telling people to buy it. I have no affiliation to this new website, so please call me suspicious all you like. Post like this are necessary where half of the people on this site isn't selling shit, not getting money, sales etc. How the fuck are we supposed to live on. Hmm. Nothing is free in this world, the more the people accept that, the better for small businesses. Thank you for your linear support. I am not supporting this kind of obnoxious group.

Does anybody know if there are any online 3D sites that sell your models but you do not have to worry about pricing your own models or creating the tags because the site does that part for you?

If Envato has a fee then you are better off selling on a site by the name of etsy at least they are quite new and not many people sell 3D models there so there is a high chance of getting views on there.

Sorry don't share same view on that. I believe this community or website is not your problem. You indeed may need to change strategy in order to solve your problem. Wish you best of luck in finding right solution.

corporate_hexolin you don't have any content or website on CGT... It would be very interesting to see what your amazing Movato profile looks like. If it is really that good over there then I would like to understand why but just commenting without showing proof makes no sense and is not helpful.

Envato's website seems much more confusing then CGT and seems to use 3D ocean to collaborate. Please help corporate_hexolin to make us understand why it is so much better than CGT... I don't see it especially the search engine there is not very useful at all in my opinion.

Just post your work everywhere and stay in place where things work out best.

That's what I did.

In the end you will make one place (the best) the main focus of attention to direct your marketing effort to.

You cannot direct marketing efforts to many different places, that consumes way to many time.
Instead you focus on making your network strong so that you can direct that in no time to whatever it is you want to drive people to.

Take control and keep power in own hands is what you need to focus on.

I am currently exclusive to CGT but it is always good to throw some links up to get people to find your CGT profile so I wanted to know why Envato is so great. It doesn't make logical sense to say that you are doing so well in one market place and then switch to a new one unless you are being ironic. But the guy/girl is publicly insulting CGT on his profile there. Not sure if you checked it out. Pretty offensive. Maybe they should be banned from re joining CGT in future. What do you guys think? https://www.cgtrader.com/corporate_hexolin

That profile is empty, just few rep. and views + not so positive info in about section ;-)
I don't know exactly what it's all about, maybe it's just a person with problems and needs to direct it to people in general?

Everyone has his own style of communicating I suppose?

Evanto probably works well for the people up their because that place also has some stuff and members, personally find it a confusing place and the royalty system is weird.

There's also plenty of people up there that don't sell anything, so chances to join the same ranks also exist up there. People have also complained about the confusing payment system and generally getting less then 50%.

Average price of items is also very low so I suppose it also has its fare share of undercutting.
If you go and take a look at featured files (I suppose those are curated best picks)then you get a bit of a picture of general quality up there I suppose?

If you take a look at curated picks on pinterest account of CGt then difference is notable.
compared to (https://3docean.net/feature)

But if you really would like to get a picture of how well models perform up their you can just go and click 3D models and sort by best sellers, all info you need is presented.

To give some perspective, this model is up 3 years and sold 13 times.

Average of 1 sell every 3 months

This ridiculously cheap model is up for over a year
(https://3docean.net/item/industrial-robot-arm/12867944?s_rank=430)

not sold ones!

I think you cannot compare that place with CGt.

@iterateCG, judging by the portfolios of those two accounts and by the price of that particular model, such scenario is extremely unlikely.

You could be right, he is also active on 3 other places having same username and offerings. The username and offerings on 3docean are not consistent with the 4 other profiles he has.

I don't like Envato (3DOcean) at all. Publishing process is extremelly complicated over there, you have to read bunch of help files just to be able to publish something. Submissions are moderated and moderation takes pretty long time. You cannot set your price, instead they set it for you (it might be changed now, not sure about that). Royalties are very low. It looks like traffic is pretty low too. Absolutely nothing better than on CGT. Crap, IMHO.

I too took a look to Envato to see if it was worth the effort.
As have been said, the site is confusing ant the uploading a nightmare, but you fall dead when you see the stuff they sell, if they sell it, that is.
IMHO CGT is far better, no way.

Yes I am not a big fan of non user friendly websites! Especially ones that charge you for a poor service. On the other hand Etsy is a far better option if people want to sell stuff because it is quite new and so the competition of selling 3D is super small but still CGT is way better than anything else I have tried.
